As we roll into the end of term, it is important to acknowledge all that has been achieved since the start of the year. As always, it has been extremely busy, yet I have been genuinely impressed by the calm and positive start we’ve experienced.
At the beginning of 2024, we commenced the development of our two‑year learning cycle—essentially the school’s architecture for when key events and actions occur throughout the year. This has been our first year implementing the plan, and it has been an outstanding success.
Here is a recap of Term 1 at Badger Creek P.S.:
- A successful whole‑staff curriculum day to begin the year, focused on establishing our Big Rocks: Growth, Feedback, and Assessment through a Multi‑tiered System of Support.
- All new Preps completed literacy and numeracy assessments and have had an extremely positive transition into Badger Creek P.S.
- A Welcome to Country by Uncle Perry Wandin to open the school year.
- Presentation of Grade 6 leadership badges, with our student leaders enthusiastically stepping into their portfolio responsibilities.
- Grade 5 students connecting with our Preps as buddies and enjoying a range of ‘get to know you’ activities.
- A number of staff participating in Department initiatives to strengthen practice and leadership, including the Teacher Excellence Program, Inspire, and Middle Leadership Development.
- Whole‑school Swimming and Athletics carnivals, with selected Years 3–6 students representing our school at District events.
- Finalisation of our First Nations House designs, now proudly displayed on our new House shirts and flags.
- Three‑way interviews, providing students with the opportunity to share work they are proud of.
- A campfire conversation in our new Yarning Circle, where First Nations students presented and celebrated pride pieces of work.
- Harmony Week celebrations, including a cultural dance incursion, lunchtime clubs, and a Harmony Lunch organised by our Community Subcommittee.
- Our Wellbeing Learning Expo, concluding with a whole‑school singing of One Song and the signing of Brown Bear.
- Reintroduction of Friday Icy‑Poles, coordinated by our School Pride Leader, to raise funds for our new sports uniforms.
- Strong participation in kayaking sessions for selected Year 5/6 students.
- A successful School Council election with two new parent members joining Council.
- The Grade 5/6 camp to Sovereign Hill, where students experienced life in an 1850s school environment.
Term 1 concludes on Thursday 2 April with a sausage sizzle fundraiser for the Good Friday Appeal, followed by our final assembly at 2:00pm, before a 2:30pm dismissal.
I hope everyone enjoys a wonderful break, and I look forward to welcoming our community back on Tuesday 21 April after our Numeracy focused Curriculum Day on Monday.
