At Badger Creek Primary School, we pair new primary school students with an older buddy, from Year 5. Our Year 5s are trained to be ‘a good buddy’ and are assigned a new Prep student to care and look out for, help at school, and inspire. Allocated sessions allow buddies to come together to create, share and play.
At Badger Creek Primary School we know that children benefit immensely from strong relationships – with younger students feeling safe and cared for, and older students feeling valued and respected.
This is what our 2024 Student Representative Council member, Sanne, had to say about being a grade 5 buddy:
‘Well, my buddy is adorable and she’s awesome! She is super smart and she makes me presents! She’s super good company. We play Lava Monster or walk around chatting. It helps them to get to know the school, someone to rely on, someone to look out for them, someone to find if they’re lonely.’
‘I love my buddy. We get to have buddy lunch and do fun things with them. They help us with lots of things at school. I like playing with my buddy at play times too!’ – current prep student.
