At Badger Creek Primary School, our Year 5s are trained to be ‘a good buddy’, learning how to care and look out for, help and inspire our new Prep students. The Year 5s are assigned a Prep student and throughout the year they come together for scheduled activities, while also catching up at play. As a school, we know that children benefit immensely from strong relationships – with younger students feeling safe and cared for, and older students feeling valued and respected.

‘Being a buddy helps them to get to know the school, someone to rely on, someone to look out for them, someone to find if they’re lonely.’

‘I love my buddy. We get to have buddy lunch and do fun things with them. They help us with lots of things at school. I like playing with my buddy at play times too!’
