If you are thinking of sending your child to Badger Creek Primary School, we’d like to provide you with as much information as possible about what to expect. On this page you can find out about how to enrole, but please visit our website for a snapshot of what’s happening around the school and book a tour with one of our principal team.

Transferring from another school

If your child is transferring from another school, whether it be local, interstate or overseas, the student and parent community will make them feel welcome from the outset. A tour of the school can be arranged with notice. Please contact the school principal to discuss how we can best facilitate the transfer.

Parent Involvement

We are a community of learners – students, parents and staff – learning, working and sharing together.

Every day, parents are involved across the school, supporting students and teachers in the learning program, or supporting the school by providing expertise in a particular area of need.

We value opportunities where teachers and parents can get to know each other and look forward to community gatherings such as the Community Music Night, Twilight Fair, Quiz Night and Open Nights. Parents are welcome to visit learning areas to share and celebrate the learning achievements and efforts of students.

Together we endeavour to develop and support students to be literate, numerate and curious and active with a vibrant and engaged community.

We value and appreciate parents and community support, and work to build and sustain relationships between our school community and the wider Healesville Community.

Engaging Parents in Children’s Learning

We work in partnership with parents regarding their children’s wellbeing and learning progress and how we support this.

In term 1, teachers will meet with parents to explain and discuss the learning programs and approaches for the year. A written report is provided at the end of term 2 and term 4 and parents are invited to meet with teachers after student-led conferences.

The reports outline achievements, areas requiring improvement and/or future learning, and how you can help at
home. The reports will rate your child’s progress against statewide standards from A (well above the standard expected) to E (well below expected).

In three way conferences, student, teacher and parent, students explain and discuss with their parents and teacher their learning achievements, as well as areas for further improvement. They use samples of their work to demonstrate their learning progress across the semester and to clarify what they have learnt, how they have learnt it and what challenges they faced in the process.

These conferences are structured according to age and year level, with student involvement increasing with age.

Of course, these aren’t the only times you might communicate with your child’s teachers. This may also occur outside the formal reporting structure.

Some other ways are:

  • helping out occasionally or regularly at working bees and other fundraising events
  • joining School Council
  • helping in the classroom
  • arranging a chat with your child’s teacher before or after school

If you can suggest other ways you could assist in your child’s grade and the school, please let your child’s teacher know or make an appointment to see Nerae Preece, the school principal, Erin Murphy, the assistant principals.
