Leadership

Every student in Grade 6 has a leadership role. From School Captains to Library and Sustainability Leaders. Students work with a mentor teacher to help facilitate changes in the school.

Student Leadership purpose:

– To develop students voice, capacity to make a difference and demonstrate their ability to effect change.

– To allow students opportunities to lead others according to their interests and passions.

– To create leaders who are positive role models for the rest of the school.

– To instill in the students the belief that all students can be leaders regardless of abilities, race or gender.

Better Buddies

At Badger Creek every prep student is allocated a Grade 5/6 buddy. These ‘buddies’ meet to share in relationship building activities on a weekly basis.

The aim of the Better Buddies Framework is to create friendly and caring primary school communities where bullying is reduced. The Framework was established by The ‘Alannah and Madeline Foundation’, which is a national charity that protects children from violence.

The Buddy System helps to

  • Ease transition of younger students.
  • Build relationships between peers.
  • Provide activities that develop pro-social skills.
  • Encourage leadership, responsibility and respect in older students.
  • Enable younger children to feel safe and cared for while older children feel valued and respected.
  • Foster a sense of whole school community.
