What an amazing week we’ve had in Prep Land!
In Maths, last week we continued learning about addition and subtraction. The children loved setting up shops, making price tags, and practising how to buy and sell goods using play money. This week, our focus has moved to ordinal numbers. We had lots of fun with running races, recording them, and then watching them back on the TV to work out which place we came in.
“I loved that everyone had fun in Maths and we got to see things and buy things with fake money.” – Jude
“I got to sell and get stuff. We got to buy a choccy for $1 from Miss H’s chocolate shop” – Sue
Our clever Preps have also been blowing us away with their letter formation and sentence writing — we are so proud of the progress they are making! We’ve made writing fun in lots of different ways, including unjumbling sentences, having a go at dictations, and even wearing headbands with our sentences written on them for our buddies to read as we write!
“I like that I can write sentences on the tight rope and I do full stops” – Ben
“I like that my writing is so neat. I even do finger spacing, capital letters and full stops!” – Patrick B
In our Respectful Relationships lessons, we’ve been exploring gender stereotypes. We’ve been learning that boys and girls can like the same things, and that what we enjoy is really about our own interests, not whether we are a boy or a girl.
“Boys and girls can both do wrestling. Girls can have long hair and so can boys!” – Raife
“Boys and girls can both do ballet.” – Georgia
“We can all wear the same clothes.” – Alice
The Preps were VERY excited to head to the Healesville Sanctuary last week. We went after our cultural lesson with Miss Swindle, where we had been learning about our house animals — Gurrung-Gurrung (Kookaburra), Marram (Kangaroo), Warin (Wombat), and Gawan (Echidna). It was such a wonderful way to connect our classroom learning with real-life experiences at the Sanctuary. The children loved discovering interesting facts about each of their house animals and seeing them up close!
“I got to see the gurrng, gurrng” – Otis
“I got to see the marrams” – Jack
