5/6 Tree planting at the Sanctuary- By Evelyn: Sanctuary Captain
On Wednesday the 8th of October, week one of term four, the grade 5/6‘s went to Healesville sanctuary to plant the trees for the Leadbeater’s possum and the Helmeted Honey Eater! We planted Swamp Paperbark (Melaleuca ericifolia) and Mountain Swamp Gum (Eucalyptus
camphora), and all together we planted 920 trees to help the Leadbeater’s possum and Helmeted Honey Eater.
We learned a lot of things about the Leadbeater possum’s and what the sanctuary is doing to help the animals.
“It was a good opportunity to explore the Healesville Sanctuary behind the scenes. It was a fun experience while knowing we were doing something to help nature” says a grade 5/6 student.
“I loved learning about the environment and how we can help make a difference” says a grade 5/6 student.
“I liked the trees because they were native to the surrounding area which made it look pretty, I enjoyed it” says a grade 5/6 student.
