It’s been an amazing start to the term reconnecting with everyone through the First Nations program.
The installation of the yarning circle and the Deadly Door competition provided perfect opportunities to connect and share, and we had a special guest join us – Hitomi who was visiting from Japan! The year 3 to 6 classes sat around the yarning circle and asked ‘what is Country offering us today?’. We found the answers were not only wind and cold, but also opportunities to care for ourselves and others by making sure we all had a jumper or something else to keep warm. It was offering a chance to feel connected to and touched by the wind and the cold, and to recognise how the wind and air connect us by carrying the sounds of our voices from us to others. The preps to year 2 classes were excited to show off their deadly door artwork and to join in a game of silent ball with the marngrook. They enjoyed feeling the soft cosiness of the ball before being challenged to hot potato, clap before catching, stand on one foot, or even spin around! Term three will bring more fun and games for the junior classes as they learn about culture and totems, and something special for the senior classes in term four.
