Our 2026 Big Rocks

Each year at Badger Creek Primary School, we identify our Big Rocks — the key priorities that guide our work and focus our improvement efforts. These priorities are shaped by student achievement data, feedback from staff, students and families, and evidence-based best practice.

For 2026, our Big Rocks are Feedback, Goal Setting, and Growth, supported by a Multi-Tiered System of Support (MTSS). Throughout the year, these concepts will become part of our shared language and will inform the decisions we make in classrooms and across the school.

Feedback

Feedback plays a vital role in learning. It provides students, teachers and families with clear information about progress in relation to learning goals, and most importantly, helps improve future learning.

Effective feedback helps students understand what they are doing well and what their next steps are. It may be provided by teachers or peers, formally or informally, and in written or spoken form. Regardless of how it is delivered, quality feedback is specific, timely, and focused on helping students improve.

Strong feedback between home and school is also essential. Sharing insights about students’ social, emotional and academic progress helps ensure the best possible outcomes. Through open communication, reflection and shared practice, feedback allows us to celebrate successes and continually refine what we do. When feedback is thoughtful and purposeful, it strengthens relationships and builds a culture where everyone feels valued, supported and confident in their learning journey.

Growth

At the heart of our work is a strong commitment to growth — academic, social and emotional. We believe every student can make meaningful progress, and we are committed to creating learning experiences that are engaging, inclusive and responsive to individual needs.

By keeping growth at the centre of our decisions, we encourage students to challenge themselves, build confidence and experience success. Growth is not only about outcomes; it is also about developing curiosity, resilience and a lifelong love of learning.

Goal Setting

Goal setting empowers students to take ownership of their learning and recognise their progress along the way. Clear, achievable goals help students understand where they are, where they are heading, and how they can get there.

Through goal setting, students build motivation, self-belief and a sense of purpose. When students, teachers and families work together around shared goals, learning becomes more meaningful, personalised and rewarding.

Multi-Tiered Systems of Support (MTSS)

Our Multi-Tiered System of Support ensures every student receives the right level of support at the right time. By integrating learning, wellbeing and behaviour supports, we are able to respond proactively and compassionately to students’ strengths and needs.

This approach allows us to celebrate success, provide timely support when required, and ensure all students feel safe, included and ready to learn. MTSS reflects our strong commitment to equity, wellbeing and helping every child thrive.
