Hello BCPS Community!
Welcome to Term 4! We have lots of exciting learning planned for our 3/4 learning space over the coming weeks. Here is a snapshot of what students have been learning in Week 4 and what we will be exploring in Week 5.
Reading
Week 4: We have been reading an informative text about Kakadu National Park. Students have practiced reading fluently, identifying informative text features, and skimming and scanning to find key facts.
Week 5: We will use choral and partner reading to explore food chains, building reading accuracy, expression and understanding.
Writing
Week 4: Students will continue writing their chosen country narratives, explore descriptive word choices, and edit and publish their work.
Week 5: Students will complete a Writing CAT focused on informative texts. Please look out for a Compass post with further information.
Maths
Week 4: Students are solving practical measurement problems involving mass and capacity, using grams, kilograms, millilitres and litres.
Week 5: Students will play multiplication games to practise and strengthen their multiplication facts.
Inquiry
Across Weeks 4 and 5, students will research animals of the Daintree Rainforest, including what they eat and how they are connected through feeding relationships. They will use their findings to create a class food chain map.
Wellbeing
Week 4: We will explore gender stereotypes in traditional fairytales and discuss the roles and expectations of different characters.
Week 5: We will learn how to respectfully challenge gender stereotypes and help everyone feel included and accepted.
Whole School Cross Country – This Friday
Students may wear their house colours. After recess, the whole school will walk to the bush hut located within the sanctuary. Â Grades 3/4 will run 2 km, with girls running at approximately 1:00 pm and boys at approximately 1:15 pm.
The event supports Together for Wildlife, and we will be having a 55-meter eel attending also!
Thank you for your ongoing support and for the conversations you share with your children about their learning at home.
Warm regards, The 3/4 Team.
