Grade 1/2 – Term 4, Week 4

Term 4, Week 3 & 4 – Year 1/2 Team

Oh what a night…

Our Grade 1/2 Fun Night was a wonderful evening filled with fun and laughter! Students enjoyed outdoor games, singing, delicious burgers cooked by Sean, icy poles and time to play before saying goodbye to our Grade 1 students.

The fun continued for our Grade 2 students as we set up our beds, settled in for a movie and headed out on a night walk. This was a special highlight for many students and a lovely opportunity to slow down and appreciate the world around us.

A big thank you to all our families for helping make the night such a success and ensuring everyone arrived ready for a memorable evening!

Literacy

In InitiaLit 1, students have been learning about the spelling patterns ‘dge’, as in bridge, edge and fridge, and ‘ge’, as in cage.

InitiaLit 2 students have been revisiting sounds and spelling patterns from previous terms. They are strengthening their ability to recognise these patterns and use their knowledge to check their work, identify mistakes and make corrections.

In writing, we have been connecting our learning to our Inquiry unit by comparing items from the past and present. Students are developing their ideas and using their writing skills to describe how things have changed over time.

Numeracy

In Numeracy, students have been working hard to develop their understanding of division. We have been exploring how to divide a whole into equal groups and sharing collections fairly. Through hands-on activities and practical examples, students have been building their confidence in splitting quantities into smaller groups and explaining their thinking.

Inquiry – Through Generations

We had a wonderful time on our excursion to Mont De Lancey on Tuesday, where we explored what life was like in the past! Some of the highlights included visiting the old schoolhouse and blacksmith, giving students the opportunity to discover how people lived, learned and worked in days gone by.

A big thank you to all the families who have been sending in items for our very own classroom museum. It’s not too late to contribute, and we would love for more students to have the opportunity to share a special piece of history from home.
