Prep, Term 4 – Week 4

InitiaLit

Our tricky words to focus on this week are come, some and what. We have also learnt the digraph ay making the /ā/ sound like in the word play. We have further developed our skills when decoding words in sentences and finding a missing word that makes sense after reading. Prep’s handwriting focus has been on forming letters, a, c, d, and g correctly.

Exploring Texts

We read Alison Lester’s beautiful book Magic Beach and then used similar techniques such as rhyme, alliteration and rich verbs to create our own Author inspired writing. Here are some of the beautiful writing pieces we created.

Maths

During Maths we have extended our knowledge of shape and our maths strategies. The Prep students are very confident when naming, classifying and sorting 2D Shapes. We have explored the features of shapes and learnt how to use subitising to quickly sort them, or compare collections to play games. We can now identify an isosceles, right angle and equilateral triangle and we know that 4-sided flat closed shapes are also known as quadrilaterals. Wow! What awesome learning ☺

Can you see how this clever Prep has sorted their shapes based off attributes (features)?

The preps have strengthened their knowledge of doubles and love showing these facts using bunny ears.

Our Interconnected World

In Inquiry, we have explored special features of animals and pets and looked at their amazing abilities through their senses. We went outside to use our senses to play I Spy. We focused on colour and shape to try and challenge our group, to see if they could guess what we saw. Whilst outside, we used our sense of touch to find smooth, cold, rough and bumpy things. The Preps also used their sense of hearing to see what we could discover. We are also learning about things that help us to live or survive and how things can change or adapt.

Fun Night with our Buddies

Last week at our fun night we created positivity pebbles with our grade 5 Buddies. It was lots of fun. We created so many wonderful designs and it has been so lovely seeing the joy it has brought our peers, to find them hidden around our school. A big THANK YOU to Ness for letting us borrow her paint pens.

Well done learning legends! Marissa, Sam and Kaisey.
