Grade 1/2 News, Term 1 – Week 9

What a wonderful celebration we had during Harmony Week! Our students worked incredibly hard on their Inquiry timelines, and it was fantastic to see them proudly showcase their learning and share their work with families at the Expo. The effort, creativity and care they put into their projects was truly impressive.

A standout highlight for our students was finishing the week with a whole-school assembly, where we came together to sing our Harmony song. It was a joyful and meaningful way to celebrate inclusion, respect and belonging.

In the Classroom –

Maths
This week we have started to explore Australian money, recognising the value of each coin and identifying the special pictures on each. Students have practised using the same coin and skip counting to make different values. It’s a great time to get out the piggy banks and practise counting with coins at home.

Writing
This week we have introduced our students to two new mentor texts. The Grade 1 students are exploring Jetty Jumping by Andrea Rowe, while the Grade 2 students have enjoyed reading The Snail and the Whale by Julia Donaldson. Students have had opportunities to build comprehension skills and develop their vocabulary by exploring the rich language used in these texts.

We would like to take this opportunity to wish everyone a safe and restful holiday as our term wraps up next Thursday.
