BCPS 3 / 4 Newsletter Term 1 – Week 3

Hello BCPS community,

We hope everyone has gotten back into the swing of the new school year. We have a lot happening this term at BCPS in 3 / 4!

This week, our 3/4 students have been busy thinking deeply, taking risks, and asking great questions.

Friday the 6th of February saw our first assembly happen with an amazing Welcome to Country and Smoking Ceremony, with Uncle Perry Wandin.

In reading we have been looking at the literal and inferred meanings within different texts. Literal questions ask you to find information directly stated in the text. The answer is right there, like reading it straight from the page!

In Writing we have started reading a class text titled Wurrtoo. We have been learning to write like an author and identify effective word choices and the structure of a sentence. Please ask your child what they are discovering about Wurrtoo. You could ask your child to share their favourite word or sentence from Wurrtoo.

You might hear your child explaining how they solved a problem using doubles or friends of ten. That is because we have been focusing on addition and subtraction strategies, using standard form, number lines, part part whole, friends of ten and doubles.

In Inquiry we have been learning about the value of ‘Taking Responsible Risks’ so that we can understand and practise this habit. This helps students embrace uncertainty to foster courage, resilience, and curiosity. Try asking your child what Taking a Responsible Risk looks like in the classroom.

Have a wonderful rest of the week!

Kindest wishes from the 3 / 4 team.
