Dear Badger Families,
Starting within the next week, and continuing throughout the school holidays until the end of October, works will be undertaken on Durn Durn (our Junior Building), which also serves as our designated Shelter in Place.
The upgrades will further improve the safety of the building in the event of a fire threat. Works will include:
- Installation of window shutters
- Replacement of the Prep rotunda with fire-resistant materials
- Installation of fire-safe glass in the upper windows
- Replacement of the eastern timber retaining walls with concrete sleepers
- A number of additional improvements designed to enhance the safety and resilience of the building.
During this period, the eastern side of the school, including the path next to Kat’s 1/2 classroom, will house the contractors’ site offices and will therefore be unavailable for access. Temporary fencing will also be erected as required, depending on the works being undertaken each day.
We ask all members of our community to please be mindful of these changes and take extra care when entering and exiting the school.
This project has been given express status to ensure the works are completed before we move into the peak fire danger period over summer. Importantly, throughout the construction period, our Shelter in Place will remain compliant and available for use if required.
I appreciate the flexibility and understanding of our school community as we undertake these important works. While there may be some temporary changes to access around the school, these upgrades will provide an important additional layer of safety for our students, staff and community.
Thank you for your continued support and cooperation.
