Prep News, Term 4 – Week 2

What a wonderful start to Term 4 we have had in Prep!

In InitiaLit, we have been learning the digraphs /wh/ as in whale, /th/ as in thumb, /ng/ as in swing, and /oo/ as in moon.

We have also been exploring the text We’re Going on a Bear Hunt. We invited our kinder friends from Badger Creek Kinder and our Grade 5 buddies to come and watch us retell the story. The Preps used instruments to create sound effects and made their own props to bring the story to life — it was such a fun and exciting performance!

In Maths, we have been focussing on sharing collections into equal groups. We took advantage of the sunshine and played lots of outdoor games where students had to share the sporting equipment evenly. “Miss H and Kaisey even brought in M&Ms for us to share into equal groups — and then we got to eat them! But we had to make sure it was fair first” – Raife. We then moved on to skip counting, practising counting by 2s using body percussion, magic hats, and hopscotch to help us remember to “skip” a number.

Our SWPBS lesson was all about being SunSmart. We explored the benefits of wearing a wide-brimmed hat compared to a cap and then got creative by designing our own SunSmart hats — check them out below!

During our Respectful Relationships lesson, we discussed what fair and unfair behaviour looks like during games and brainstormed ways we can make sure everyone feels included.

We are already looking forward to next fortnight to see all the amazing learning!
