Grade 1/2 News, Term 4 – Week 2

Our students have had a busy and productive fortnight across all areas of learning.

InitiaLit (Reading & Spelling)
• Year 1 – We have been learning the soft sounds of the letters c and g. Students are practising when c makes the ‘s’ sound (as in city) and when g makes the ‘j’ sound (as in giant).
• Year 2 – Our focus has been on verbs, including past and present tense and some irregular verbs (e.g. run/ran, go/went).

Writing
• In both Year 1 and Year 2, we are using mentor texts to guide our writing. Students are practising recount-style writing in the form of letters and postcards.
• Year 2 students are also developing their narrative writing, using verbs, adverbs, time connectives and organising their ideas into paragraphs.

Mathematics
Our maths focus has been on multiplication and division. Students have been exploring:
– Arrays
– Repeated addition
– Making equal groups

Wellbeing
We have begun our lessons on Positive Gender Relations, learning that we treat all people fairly and respectfully, regardless of their gender.
