Prep News, Term 3 – Week 2

What an amazing start to term it has been in the Prep learning space. We have been eagerly counting down to our 100 days of school and we are so close now. The very next day will be our celebration. We can’t wait to share this special day with you at our parade at 9am Monday the 27th of July.

During Maths, we have extended our knowledge of patterns. Using shapes, colours and different sequences of collections to show missing elements, what come before and after our core pattern. We have learnt to use algebra to name our patterns. Can you see the patterns we have made bellow and know what come next, before and how to name it?

We have strengthened our ability to learn number bonds whilst learning our Maths Strategy “Friends of Ten”. Not only can the preps tell you the friend of ten, but they have also learnt how to find the inverse sum too. Wow!

In InitialLit we have discovered that a “digraph” is two letters together that make one sound. Like “ck” making /k/ for the word duck. We have also learnt /ss/ /ll/ and /ff/.

Our latest Storybook Mentor Text is Two Mates by Maggie Posstle and Nanny Postle. It told us all about a special friendship between two boys and explored all the fun things they do together. We wrote about a friend that we have as a mate and celebrated the fun things that we do with them! Students then created our own artwork to celebrate the “mates” we have in our class and all the fun things we do together.

Writing in our Swimming Journal each day has been a fun way to remember what we did and celebrate our bravery and confidence. Everyone has loved seeing their pictures printed. Many students have done things during these lessons for the very first time and we all could not be prouder of you! On Thursday we learnt about water safety. Using an outside voice and yelling for help, lying down on our chest for a rescue and only being in water if we are supervised. They were also taught about things we can use around the house that will float if we need to save someone. All students have been using a safe entry to get into the pool.

See you all Monday with the 100-year-olds! Mrs C.
