Wow. It is hard to believe that we are nearly halfway through the term already.
During Literacy blocks we have been busy learning new sounds c (cody camel), d (danny dingo) and h (hannah hippo.) The preps have been superstars using these letters with our three-part sound boxes to sound out and read and spell new words, such as c-o-d. We have also learnt that some words cannot be decoded (sounded out) and that these words just need to be learnt by sight and familiarisation. We now know I, my, the, was, a, you and is. If you ever want to know what words we are learning, they are stuck to the glass window on our ‘tricky word tree’ branches in our classroom. We have also been thinking of our own ideas we want to write about and trying to sound out the words we want to spell. Here are some of the students’ beautiful sentences and illustrations:

For writing we have had the mentor text Possum in the House. At the end of our learning sequence, we created our own adorable possums with curled tails to hang in our room. Here are some of the creations:

During maths we have learnt about number bonds and friends of ten. We then learnt about prepositions, which are words that tell us where something is. We created our own obstacle course in the classroom that students needed to navigate. Going under the table, around the boulders, left and right, jump over the block wall, etc. We had so much fun doing this! Rosie’s Walk was the perfect book to teach us more about location words and we had so much fun creating our own versions using the words that we knew. Check out some of our great learning below:

Next week is the Book Fair and we have a Science Incursion on Wednesday the 20th of May. The preps are super excited about both of these special events.
Kaisey and I are so extremely proud of all the Preps and the wonderful ways they have grown, having only had 60 days of school.
