Prep News, Term 1 – Week 5

So much has been happening in our Prep space over the past two weeks. We have had many exciting ‘firsts’ and the room has been full of anticipation and pride as we have accomplished new skills and knowledge.

Here is a glimpse of our amazing learning:

  • So many students were super excited to catch a bus for the very first time. Everyone was so safe and kind to each other. The bus driver was very impressed, well done!
  • Our swim sports was a huge success, so many brave little legends trying new things to help their house team get points.
  • We have continued to study new texts to practice making connections and retelling the important parts. We then completed some beautiful Stuck by Oliver Jeffers inspired tree artworks, where students practiced their cutting skills to create leaves. They then drew funny objects that were stuck in their tree. My favourite was an ‘orangutan riding a unicycle!’ These are hanging up in our room, we’d love you to come have a look.
  • On Wednesday, we learnt our very first sound and letter, /m/ for maggie mouse. Everyone enjoyed rubbing their tummies mmm, when Maggie Mouse ate her delicious m
  • Our Maths topic at the moment is 2D Shapes. We have been learning how to identify them, find them in the natural environment, draw them, sort them and describe their features or special attributes. One student very proudly shared “I have drawn a pentagon, and it is special because it has five sides and five corners.”
  • We learnt we can save or bank our tokens. Once we get to 20 tokens, we can receive an extra special acknowledgement. Either bring a toy to school for a day, have a ‘show and tell’ opportunity or spend a session in another class. This is sure to be a hit!

Here are a few photos of our learning.

We are really looking forward to sharing more of the wonderful things the Preps have been discovering at the 3-way interviews next week. Mrs C and Kaisey.
