Our darling Preps have had such an amazing start to school! Kaisey and I have been so proud of everything they have been learning and the ways in which they have been adapting to new rules and routines.
These are some of the things we have been learning about so far:
- Our School Values and our school wide positive acknowledgement (token) system.
- Counting to and from 20, understanding that the number before is backwards and the number after is forwards.
- The Maths Strategy Subitising, which is knowing how many objects there are in a collection, without counting them. Such as knowing this pattern on a dice is 6.

- Practising how to use clues from a text to predict what might happen. Such as using the front and back cover of a book, the blurb, pictures and title.
- Identifying word parts (syllables) such as knowing the word caterpillar has 4 parts, cat-er-pill-ar. The Preps have learnt how to clap these parts as they say them. We have also learnt that sentences have words that are put together to tell us things. We have been counting words in sentences.
- Identifying rhyme, by knowing that the end of the word will sound the same. Such as p-ig and w-ig rhyme because the sound they make at the end is the same.
- Learning how to retell a story by summarising the beginning, middle and end and drawing it and labelling it in a story map.
- Discovering and exploring all of the things that create our unique identities, during our Inquiry Unit.
Here are some students’ wonderful learning from the week.
