Learning Highlights from Year 1 and 2 (Weeks 5 and 6)

What a fantastic fortnight it has been!

In Literacy, Grade 1 students explored the oi/oy digraph and the suffix –ly, while Grade 2 students worked on contractions and summarising. In Writing, students continued to focus on non-fiction texts – hunting for key facts, organising them under subheadings, and turning them into clear sentences in their own words.

Maths has been all about place value! Students stretched their knowledge of 3- and 4- (and even 5) digit numbers, used place value charts, expanded notation, and had a blast with games to sharpen their skills.

Through Inquiry, we’ve continued celebrating cultural differences, learning about games, food, and dances from Italy, India and China. The excitement and curiosity from the students has been wonderful to see!

In Wellbeing, we’re focusing on when and how to ask for help from a trusted adult – building confidence and independence along the way.

And of course,

Book Week was a huge highlight! From the colourful Parade costumes to the buzzing Expo night, it was a true celebration of reading. Thank you to our families for joining in and sharing photos of all the special ways you enjoy books at home.

Looking Ahead
As we move into Week 7 and 8, there’s plenty to be excited about! Parent Teacher Interviews will take place, our F–2 students will head out on an excursion to Hamer Hall, and we’ll finish the term with our Whole School Colour Fun Run – a brilliant way to celebrate the end of term together.
