We have had Book Week – and what a week it was! The Preps loved dressing up as their favourite characters, meeting Jake (an author and illustrator), and sharing their special books with our Robyn Jane Kinder friends. We also had our Literacy Expo, which was such a great adventure!
In Maths, we have been introduced to the concept of addition. Using our knowledge of “friends of 10,” we have been practising how to add two numbers together. We have been using concrete materials such as counters, a deck of cards, and teddies to help us combine two collections and see how numbers grow when we add them together. We have also been creating and solving simple number stories (for example: “I had 3 apples, and I picked 2 more. How many apples do I have now?”), which has helped us understand how addition works in real-life situations. We have also been using our work It out mats to record our thinking and show the different strategies we can use to solve addition problems.

In Inquiry (Fairness and Friendship), we have been exploring rules and why they are important both at home and at school. We even went on a tour around the school to see what else we could implement to make BCPS an even fairer place. Back in the classroom, our incredible Preps suggested that we need a “Be Brave” token — “for when we step outside of our comfort zone,” explained Ben. Together, we will be making a plan and presenting our ideas to Mr. Crawford.
From the Prep team 😊
