We’ve had a busy and exciting time in our learning this fortnight!
In InitiaLit 1, students have been working on the FLoSS rule (when to double f, l, and s at the end of a word) and the Zack rule (when to use ck for the /k/ sound at the end of a word). In InitiaLit 2, our focus has been on inferencing — using clues from the text and what we already know to understand deeper meanings.
In writing, we’ve been practising how to find the main idea in non-fiction texts, take key notes, and then put that information into our own words. This has been a great way to build both reading comprehension and writing skills.
In maths, we’ve been exploring mass and capacity. Students have been using informal units to compare how heavy objects are and how much containers can hold.
Our Inquiry unit has been all about cultural heritage. We’ve begun our journey through our four focus countries, starting with Italy! We even integrated maths and inquiry by cooking Lemoni Biscotti — measuring ingredients and enjoying our delicious treats. To finish off, we had a great time learning and playing the traditional Italian game, Bocce.
It’s been a wonderful week of learning, creativity, and cultural exploration!
