Another VERY Busy Fortnight in 5/6 Land! 
We know we always say how busy it is in 5/6 Land, but this fortnight has felt EXTRA busy! From High School Production excursions, the Grade 5 Local Project Day, 2027 Grade 6 jumper fittings and all the fun of Book Week to preparing for our whole-school Walk to School Day. There has certainly been a lot happening! We were also lucky enough to have Ryan from LEGO Masters visit us for some robot and Lego fun, which was a very exciting experience for our students! We even managed to find some time to head down and visit our Bush Block, which the Grade 5/6s absolutely loved!
Grade 5 Local Project Day – “I really liked how my buddy wasn’t shy to talk to me. He was very kind and positive, I can see why he got the opportunity to go there” Esther S

In Exploring Texts, we have been looking closely at procedural texts and learning just how important it is for instructions to be clear, specific and detailed so that the reader knows exactly what to do. Unfortunately, our Grade 5/6s discovered this the messy way when Mrs Granger and Miss H attempted to follow their instructions for how to make a jam sandwich. Let’s 
just say… the instructions weren’t quite specific enough, and at one point our hands may have been used to scoop the margarine. Ewww! It certainly proved the importance of being specific! Throughout the unit, students have also been choral reading, checking their comprehension and identifying the key features of procedural texts. They have now begun planning their very own procedural texts, ready to put everything they have learnt into practice.
In Maths, we have moved from Mass and Capacity into our new unit on Equations. Students have been learning how to find a missing value, represented by a letter, within an equation. We have been thinking carefully about the relationship between operations and using different
strategies to work out what the unknown value must be. Next week, we move into BODMAS and the order of operations, which we are very excited about!
In Inquiry, our Scratch projects based around our Journey to Discovery unit are coming along beautifully! Students have been busy bringing together their learning, creativity and digital technology skills to create their final projects. We are looking forward to sharing all of their hard work with our families next week at our Learning Expo!
Another action-packed fortnight done and dusted in 5/6 Land – and somehow, there is still plenty more to come!
