Over the past few weeks, students in Prep have been learning emotions signs, such as happy, sad, excited, silly, sick, scared, angry and shy. This week, we began learning the letters of the Auslan alphabet to be
able to sign our names.
Students have brought a prompting sheet home to practice with their families. Combining this information, students are practicing signing the full greeting: “Hello. How are you? (pause for response) It’s nice to see you. My name …”
It would be wonderful to see and hear of students practicing these skills with their families (alphabet attached).
Students in Grade 1/2 have been exploring transport and question words. It is fun to sign questions like: “Which transport Dad like?” and “Where is (the) motorbike?”
Students in Grade 3/4 are reading the Helen Keller story and are loving it! Recently, they discovered the communication styles of Braille and the hand alphabet for people who are deaf and blind.
Students in Grade 5/6 are exploring deaf culture and identity through videos and discussions. They are now working on their choice of deaf culture research project, to be submitted later this term.
