What another wonderful couple of weeks we have had in 5/6 land! Firstly, we would like to acknowledge how lovely it was to sit down with families during our 3-way conferences and celebrate the amazing work that has been happening in our classrooms.
On Friday, we had our Athletics Day. We were incredibly proud of all of our students and the fantastic sportsmanship shown throughout the day. It was wonderful to see students shaking hands and recognising each other’s efforts, stepping outside their comfort zones to have a go, and showing such enthusiasm. The positive energy and encouragement between students made it a truly enjoyable event and a fabulous way to end the week!
In Inquiry, we have continued exploring identity and the things that are important to us. Students planned their T-shirt designs (which are meant to highlight their identity) and then began bringing their ideas to life by creating their designs on their shirts. We can’t wait to showcase our new fashion line at the Learning Expo next week!
In Maths, we have been stretching our thinking with multiplication and division problems. While the work has challenged students, they have embraced the stretch and enjoyed the feeling of success when solving tricky problems.
In Writing, we explored the text Bound for the Colonies in preparation for camp. The story tells the tale of two different families and their experiences on their voyage to Australia to start a new life. From here, students created their own narratives, using a story mountain to help plan their writing. The text also supported us in developing our character profiles ready for camp.
Check out some of our students’ writing:
“I wake up, shivering. Goosebumps filling my body. We go down for breakfast but… they say they have to save the food for the wealthy…” – Ruby
“Boom, bash! The waves were smashing into the ship. The food tastes disgusting, the ship is dirty with parts destroyed…” – Cameron
Friendly Reminders:
Please return any camp medication forms as soon as possible to help support our organisation of camp.
We are looking forward to another wonderful week in 5/6 next week!
From VERY proud 5/6 Teachers.
