This term in Prep, we’ve been learning all about sustainability and how we can help take care of our world. Our students have explored big ideas through books, videos, a visit to CERES Sustainability Farm, and hands-on actions like clean-ups and composting.

We’ve made exciting changes to our classroom too! We now have a Sustainability Monitor, whose job is to turn off the lights when we’re not using the classroom and to take our food scraps up to the worms and chickens. These small changes help reduce our impact on the environment — and our Preps are leading the way!

We’re so proud of the students and their growing awareness, care, and passion for living more sustainably.

Save the World Forever!!
We are sustainability heroes in Prep! We have read books, visited CERES Sustainability Farm, watched videos, and picked up rubbish!
We have learnt…
Don’t throw rubbish on the ground – it belongs in the bin! But not just any bin – it needs to go in the right bin!
♻️ Recycling bin – These things don’t go to landfill. They go to a place where they get crushed down and made into new things. This helps our planet! Things keep getting recycled again and again and again. Don’t worry – when things are recycled, they get cleaned too!
🗑️ Rubbish – This goes to landfill. Another truck picks up this rubbish and dumps it into a giant hole in the ground – yuk! If everything goes into landfill, it makes the Earth not a happy place.
🍌 Compost – Put all your food scraps into the compost bin. Did you know that chickens and worms like food scraps too!? But they can’t eat all food scraps – so make sure you check what chickens and worms can eat.
Don’t put rubbish on the ground – it makes the world sad. When it rains, rubbish gets washed into the drains, then into rivers, oceans and lakes, and that makes animals sick. Land animals can get sick by eating rubbish too.
If a see-through plastic bag goes into the ocean, a sea turtle might think it’s a jellyfish, eat it, and get really sick. We don’t want that, do we?
Be a hero too!
Don’t drop rubbish on the ground – and ask someone which bin your rubbish should go in!
