MATHS – By Abbie H
“In the 5/6 space we’ve been completing a sheet to test our automatic recall with maths strategy sheets that we have to finish in 5 min. On the harder one it has questions like: half 126 or 96+96 and on the easter one it has questions like: 26+26 or 14-7. I think the maths strategies sheets are quite fun, but I’ll get some opinions from some more 5/6 students”.
Eden “I think it’s fun and fun for everyone else, also a good way to test you in 5 minutes.” Vedra “I found the maths strategies task a little bit difficult but it’s fun it’s like a mini challenge for yourself you’re not racing against others you’re racing against yourself.”
FIGHTING EXTINCTION
The Grade 5/6s have been working on a Fighting Extinction project in groups to help raise awareness for endangered species. We are planning to compile them all to make a booklet about all the most endangered species. These will be professionally published and shared across Zoos Victoria. What an honour and privilege! Students have really enjoyed working on this project. They have been working tirelessly to get it together. Each group has to make a story page from the animal’s perspective and a fact page about the animal.
PHASMID – Our ‘Misty Mentor Text’ inspired writing
The 5/6s have been learning about the Lord Howe Island Phasmid. We have watched two videos, one showing how the baby Phasmid gets out of its egg and the other one was a beautiful animation about the Phasmid’s story about how the Phasmid population massively decreased after rats swam to the shore of Lord Howe Island in a storm, but somehow a few found their way to a mountainous rock in the middle of the ocean and got found by an explorer and got brought back to breed.
STOMP
Vedra: I loved STOMP so much it really brought out my true self and my own happiness and joy. Badger Creek really understood my talent and NEVER underestimated ANYONE. Anytime anywhere. STOMP is a fun and active way to get your body moving and if you mess up on stage no problem because everyone is so supportive. I definitely had fun!
Ellie: STOMP was an awesome experience because it pushes people out of there comfort zone, which is a good thing, because people learn in different ways. Stomp shows everyone’s personality, and it is really fun and awesome activity.
Shelby: I loved STOMP. I felt like it was a chance for people to come out of their comfort zones. It was especially amazing coz everyone had a roll. It was a really fun and a way to get your body moving. So, in conclusion, it was a really fun night!
