Nerae Preece Principal From the Principal… Final word for 2021 I have been trying to get my head around a concept this year. Reflective practices. It is a bit of an education jargon term. I knew it was an important thing to do, but I couldn’t think of how I should do it. Let’s take it back a step. I think reflective practice is just a fancy way of saying “spending time to reflect on what you’ve done”. Some people are amazing and do this everyday through journaling, others talk to their friends and colleagues about it and [...]

Nerae Preece Principal From the Principal  It is getting to that time of year again. Next Tuesday afternoon is our very first transition session for 2022. We want the kids to have the surprise of meeting the learning teams first (You will be able to find out your child’s learning team in the next newsletter). At this stage they will not be placed into grades yet, we will be exploring groupings of students and seeing how they work best. For the remainder of the year, on a Tuesday, students will be able to meet up with their 2022 [...]

Nerae Preece Principal From the Principal  I am feeling grateful this week. This week I had less meetings than usual. This meant that I could go and visit so many lessons this week. It is always my favourite thing to do, because it is so nice to watch the explicit teaching and then talk to the students about their learning. Some of my highlights from this week has been watching Smart Spelling, seeing our students learn about angles and chatting about books that are being read. If you fancy having a look too (and you’re double vaccinated) come [...]

Nerae Preece Principal From the Principal Staffing for 2022 It is that time of year again. The time where we share what is happening in 2022. The first bit of big news is that we will have an Assistant Principal again in 2022. Through the merit and equity process Emma Griffiths applied and was the successful candidate. Emma comes with a wealth of experience in eastern suburb schools and has been working on her leadership skills since her arrival at Badger Creek. I know that she will be someone that many of you feel comfortable to reach out [...]

Nerae Preece Principal From the Principal  My mantra at the moment is “Stay Curious”. I picked this because, at times, I am very quick to jump to conclusions or make judgments on situations. It doesn’t always help, especially when you work with children. Since I have started to be more curious, things have changed for me. Rather than looking for things to blame in situations, I have started to wonder why it may have happened. Here is how it works… Let’s say a child makes a mistake, maybe they might break something. Often I might have reacted in [...]

Nerae Preece Principal From the Principal There is a lot to get through this week, so we might just get cracking… Curriculum Day On Monday the 1st of November we have our final curriculum day for the school year. These Curriculum Days are approved by School Council the year prior. All teachers will be working on Monday to do a Triangulation Day. A triangulation day is where teachers collect work samples, assessments and the curriculum and check off to see where children are working at. This helps us with writing reports for you at the end of year. [...]

Nerae Preece Principal From the Principal This week, as the kids are coming back to school, I thought it might be a good opportunity to share with you parts of our Covid Safe Plan. In particular what will happen if we have a confirmed case that is onsite at our school. Of course we will take every measure that we can to minimise this, to keep your child safe. So here is a little run down of what our DET processes are… How are you preventing Covid from entering the school? The first thing that we have is [...]

Nerae Preece Principal From the Principal Hello everyone, Time is flying by so quickly. I am so excited to know that our preps, grade 1’s and 2’s will be back with us for some of the time next week. You have all been so patient and understanding. Today’s piece is going to give you the heads up on a few of the things we need your help with from next week, until we can ease restrictions. Things will be a little different, but of course that is so we can keep learning spaces safe for our unvaccinated and [...]

Nerae Preece Principal From the Principal Hello everyone, Well I don’t know about you, but those school holidays were the most bizarre school holidays I have ever known! An earthquake!?! I honestly thought it was our washing machine going bonkers on its spin cycle, but alas the washing machine wasn’t even on that part of the wash cycle. I guess one of my favourite parts of the holiday was knowing that I was “double jabbed”, as I got to enjoy a couple of picnics with some fabulous friends in some of our beautiful parks in Healesville. I know [...]

Nerae Preece Principal From the Principal  I remember when I was 10, back in 1988, I started dreaming of becoming an architect. Designing my dream home with the rooms and swimming pools and toy rooms. I grew out of that after a while, then I think I wanted to become the manager of ski lodge and a professional singer. I didn’t quite get there for any of those things… until 2021! No I haven’t been signed up with Mrs Riley’s record label, nor has climate change been helping with our ski seasons, but… Our school did get a [...]
