Nerae Preece Principal

From the Principal

Welcome to December! To think of all the uncertainty we faced at the start of the year, and here we are, with so much that we have been able to achieve this year.

We have pretty much completed our workforce plan for 2023… I would like to share our teaching teams with you…

In prep we have Sarah Hubbard and Erin Rennick.

In ½ we have Jessica Riley, Kaisey Marra, Kathryn Douglas, and Rohan Anderson.

In ¾ we have Andy Moore, Gwen Shand and Matt Johnson.

And in 5/6 we have Alyssa Morgan-Drill, Claire Cripps and Chris Roscoe.

Students will be participating in a few upcoming 2023 cohort (that’s all the students in an area eg grade 1/2) transition sessions in the next 2 weeks, to start the very important process of building relationships.

As many of you will know collaboration is a very important way in which we work at Badger. Our prep-2 students will have 2 allocated adults as their teachers in 2023, and they will be learning in the durn durn space (that’s the one closest to the Sanctuary).

Our ¾ learning neighbourhood will be in Old building A (that’s where the ¾ students are currently located), these students will be delegated to a teacher, however all of the teachers in the space will support each students learning.

Our 5/6 learning neighbourhood will be in the balit space (that’s the gym), these students will be delegated to a teacher, however all of the teachers in the space will support each students learning.

Our teams in 2023 bring a wealth of experience to support all of our children to make the learning growth they are entitled to. We are very much looking forward to the adventures of 2023!

Graduation…

Our grade 6 students are getting ready for their big night of nights. Their Graduation is coming up on Wednesday the 7th of December. This is a special evening to reflect on the amazing achievements our grade 6 students have made of the past 7 years. We look forward to hearing speeches and musical performances to mark this milestone.

School Concert…

Next Thursday the 8th of December we have our school concert. Mrs Legg has been supporting our students to get ready for our very first concert for a few years. Make sure you bring your picnic blanket and a picnic to enjoy the concert arrive from 5:00pm to start at 5:30pm.

School camp…

Our grade 5/6 students are heading to City Camp in Week 11. We are so excited to be able to enjoy one last adventure with our grade 6 students. A big thank you to Mrs Morgan (Miss Drill) for getting this camp organised.

Swimming sports…

We have our very first Swimming Sports Carnival on Thursday the 15th of December. We will be transported down to the Healesville Outdoor Pool for a day of fun and games and swimming races. The races will help us determine who will be able to race at the districts in 2023. This is open to our grade 4-6 students.  Your child will need to know their house colours, you can find this out on Compass.

We have a few other surprises in store for that day… We can’t wait!!!

Leavers Assembly…

Another gentle reminder for our Grade 6 families to save the date and time… Friday the 16th of December from 2:30-3:30. This will be our very last assembly for the year. This is also our Leavers Assembly, where we say farewell to our Grade 6 students and some of our special teachers who are moving on.

We look forward to seeing you there. Don’t forget the Bake Sale afterwards!

That’s about it for this week, have a lovely weekend.

This week in Prep…

It’s that time of the year where we get to bring the Christmas cheer into the classroom!

The Preps have shown so much pride and joy towards our Christmas tree. Piling a beautiful collection of wrapped up books for us to admire and choose from each day. This is absolutely the most suspenseful reading sessions we’ve ever had. Not knowing what books will be guiding our learning has kept the Preps (and the teachers) on their toes. But the excitement and love that comes from opening a well-loved book to share with the Prep family is truly priceless.

Across Reading and Writing, we have been learning about narratives. We’ve been identifying the main parts within stories in Reading, and using this knowledge of beginning, middle and ends to create our own narratives in Writing.

What a fantastic job they did with setting the scene, introducing the characters, creating a problem, and wrapping it up nicely with a solution. So many creative and original ideas came out in these stories. We can’t wait to begin our Christmas stories next week, now that we have mastered this art of story writing.

What’s the time Mr. Wolf? Time to learn about time! With so many of our little cherubs coming in with their watches and just last week learning to spell the word ‘watch’, we knew it was perfect timing for us to revisit the concept of time. But more specifically, am vs pm, digital vs analogue, and the key features of clocks which help us to read the time. We were blown away with just how quickly they were able to identify the difference between the minute and hour hands on an analogue clock, and how this translates on a digital clock. Such rockstar learners!

PMP has been a success this term! The Preps are loving jumping into activities where they are moving their bodies, throwing, catching, bouncing and targeting balls, skipping and crawling. It’s amazing watching their gross motor and coordination build in such a short time. They surprise themselves with how they can attempt these activities with ease.

Nothing else to report from us…

Your little one is probably fast asleep in bed as you’re reading this- they are all exhausted! It’s been a massive term. So many adventures, so much learning!

Thank you for continuing to motivate and support your little person. We know it’s not an easy task at this time of the year, but we’re nearly there!

Have a wonderful weekend.

This week in Grade 1 / 2…

What a week! This week has flown – you know what they say, time flies when you’re having fun!!

In Reading this week, we have been analysing the author’s purpose (to entertain, inform or persuade). We’ve analysed our own Good Fit Books and have ensured a ‘healthy reading diet’ of both fiction and non-fiction texts. Take a look at our reading photos – our students were so focused! 🙂

In Writing, we have been hard at work on planning and drafting a persuasive piece on our allocated devices. All students now have unique logins and are able to access Google Drive, just like their teachers! This allows their work to be saved automatically. We add our work to a folder titled ‘Writing’ and feel very much like we’re working in an office building!! We are also continuing to access Typing Club… and we’re improving every day! Check out our photos! It is helping us become more familiar with the keyboard and our laptops/ipads. Would you like your child to access Typing Club at home? Guess what, IT’S FREE! Click here or type Typing Club into Google, then click on the ‘jungle’ for heaps of fun lessons! Happy typing!

In Maths, we’ve had a highly interesting week, full of engaging concepts including fractions (halves, quarters and eights) and sharing into groups, area and perimeter. Take a look at our Maths photos, and ask your kids about the silly alien that helped us learn about fractions…

In Inquiry, we investigated minibeats that live underground, and above ground, and why these habitats are best suited to each.

Next week in Literacy, we’re practising multiple choice questioning when comprehending a text, and responding to both persuasive and narrative prompts, with a given timeframe. In Maths, we are moving on to transformations of shapes and objects, and interpreting calendars.

We also very much look forward to our Christmas concert performance next Thursday, and to Mr Anderson’s birthday on Monday!!!

Happy weekend!
