From the Principal

Well what a term that was! So many highs and a few challenges to test us along the way. But let’s agree, we got through it. It’s time to list some things that I am really grateful for from the past term…

  • All the amazing learning growth from our students. They have been working so hard in their learning.
  • The fun events that were organised like our trip to the Arts Centre, the Athletics sports day and the Colour Fun Run. It was great to see so much participation from our kids and our family helpers!
  • All of the volunteers who have helped every week to help our students become even better learners, you know who you and we are so grateful for your time.
  • Our incredible teachers and support staff who have kept on teaching both on site and online. They are relentless in their pursuit of collaboration and are learning so much from peer observations.
  • Finally I am so grateful for our community. It makes it easy to get up every day and come to school, knowing that the community I work and learn in is so supportive and caring. Thank you to all of you!

What have you got to look forward to next term…

  • We are moving from Sentral to Compass. We know this platform will make communication so much easier and we can’t wait to share it with you.
  • New toilets in our Community Hub (Gym/music space). It will be nice for our students and community to enjoy brand new facilities! Finally!
  • 3 way interviews, an opportunity for families to catch up with their child’s teacher to talk about their learning progress.
  • A BER that will have a higher BAL rating with new thicker glass, a good coat of paint, repairs to the roof among other things.

I know there will be many more highlights moving forward, in the meantime, please make sure you have a safe break and we look forward to a great term 3.

Cheers

Nerae

Music News

Dear Families and friends,

It has been an interesting semester in music. One full of change and adaptation. Even though we have not been able to present the student’s music to you as easily as in pre-covid times, we are still playing, learning and having fun with making music.

Some of the highlights of the first half of the year include:

  • The grade 3/4 students leaning to play some songs together on the ukuleles and presenting these to our school in small and larger concerts.
  • Our Prep students experiencing the joy of singing and playing instruments together and the fun of moving to music as we explored the Carnival of the Animals.
  • Our Grade 1/2 students persevering to learn the body percussion part in the song Yananhi, by Indigenous composer, Eric Avery. It was not easy!
  • Our grade 5/6 students making and performing basketball rhythms for a video project that turned our fabulously.
  • Our trip to the Arts Centre
  • A concert presented for the Badger Creek Kindergarten, which involved 150 students performing.

We have all missed inviting families and friends into the school to share the music as we normally do. The students so love to share with you and show what they have learnt. Let’s hope that we can welcome you back more often as the year progresses.

Have a lovely break and I look forward to enjoying music with our students next term

This week in Art…

What a busy and creative term it has been in our art room. I’m so proud of our students and how much growth they have shown in their art making skills.

Students have explored a range of artists and practised many new techniques in clay, drawing and painting. They have demonstrated their commitment and enthusiasm to learning new processes, which are evident in the quality of artwork that has been produced.

Well done everyone. I look forward to another term of creating and making at Badger Creek Primary School.

This week in Prep…

2 TERMS DOWN AND OUR PREPS (and the rest of us) ARE FEELING PROUD!

This week, we enjoyed spending lots of time with our favourite friend Sarah Hubbard while Mrs. C attended to census data collection. We loved showing Sarah how much we have grown since the last time we saw her. We blew Sarah’s socks off when we showed her how we can infer, SMART spell, and use locational language.

We’d just like to take this opportunity to thank all community members for continuously supporting the Preps with their learning this semester. The Prep team are feeling extremely grateful to be surrounded by so much love and devotion every day.

As you will be able to tell when reading your child’s report, it’s been a big journey up until this point and we can’t wait to keep trekking with our goals when we return back next term!

This week in Grade 1 / 2…

YEAR 1/2

What an interesting term we’ve had!! The resilience our children have shown this term, is to be commended. We, the teachers of Year 1/2,  thank all parents and carers for their ongoing support and communication. The way in which you prepared your children to return to school, is greatly appreciated. We make a great team!

This week, we have been learning all about non-fiction texts in Reading and Writing. We focused on the features of a non-fiction text when reading, and planned and researched an Information Report on an animal of our choice. In Spelling, we have continued our focus on digraphs (2 letters that make one sound like /ng/ in king). Our children have thrived in our Smart Spelling approach (see some photos of our segmenting and spelling circles). During the holidays, your children may like to play the role of ‘teacher’ and teach you all about what they do in Smart Spelling. 🙂

In Mathematics, we have been practising our subtraction skills through worded stories, models, drawings and vertical equations. In Inquiry, we are finishing our unit of work on Food and Fibre Production. This week we have been learning about the impact of food packaging on the natural environment. Did you know that 1/2AB found over 200 pieces of rubbish in our yard! Well done eco-warriors!

In Term 3, we look forward to a wonderful Inquiry Unit titled ‘Power’ that explores the meaning of right and wrong, and the reasons they are considered so, as well as exploring the effects that personal feelings can have on people and their behaviour. In Week 1, we are focusing on Questioning (literal and inferred) in Reading, presenting our Information Reports, and engaging with Money in Mathematics.

We hope that all families have a wonderful holiday period, and we look forward to seeing you all on day 1 of Term 3!

This week in Grade 3 / 4…

The Buzz in 3/4

This week in 3/4 we have been learning all about … Shape.

We started off with identifying shapes by their common names and mathematical names and then moved on to describing their features or attributes. We talked about edges, corners (vertices) and faces. Then we explored what a polygon is and isn’t.

The children got to draw different shapes as part of describing them and defining them, after which they turned their shape drawings into weird animal pictures.

In Reading, the children have been learning how to ask questions before reading a text, while reading a text and after reading a text. We have explored the concepts of using previous knowledge (schema) and evidence from the text (including pictures) to help us to answer most of the questions.

In Writing, the children have been publishing their persuasive texts that they have been working on for this past while.

The children had lots of fun😊

This week in Grade 5 / 6…

Hello to all our Grade Five and Six Families.

It’s been a hectic week for all our senior students as they’ve worked tirelessly to prepare for their Enterprise Fair with some incredible successful business ventures taking flight!

In maths, we’ve been focusing on how to calculate change when handling both small and large sums of money whilst making quick, mathematics based decisions.

In reading, we’ve been slowly winding down towards the end of term by enjoying some solitary reading time whilst concentrating on tracking our thoughts, whilst in writing, students have been working hard to build up their use of quality language in their planning and drafts.

Finally, working collaboratively, students have finished creating their products, and have visited other classrooms in the junior school to present their business ideas and products to potential customers.

Well done to all our fantastic students, we’re tremendously proud of all of you!

We hope you all have a wonderful and relaxing holiday break, and look forward to seeing you all at the beginning of next term.

Warm Regards

The Grade 5/6 Teaching Team
