From the Principal

I missed last week’s newsletter post. It was a tad difficult to get it to you in these electricity dependent times. I know most of us have power now, but our thoughts go out to the families that are still waiting for their power to be turned back on. It has been such a challenging time.

My situation was okay, it was dark at night that’s for sure but it allowed my family to be safe and warm with a wood fire and gas cooktop (glamping standards). However, with the lockdown and all of the other things that were going on it did make me feel tired and overwhelmed, and it was really hard to put things into perspective. Things that have helped me get through have been to talk about how I have been feeling through these times, saying yes to help and support, and listening to the advice of a friend that said to take it one day at a time.

So please, if you are feeling a bit down after everything that has happened, reach out for help and support. Come and have a chat to a friend, if you don’t know where to turn the door is open here at school, we will listen. Please look after your mental health.

Compass

It is with much consideration and deliberation that we are moving to a new Education Management System over the next 6 months. As you will know we are currently using Sentral, and even though it has some good features, it isn’t able to provide us with two things that are really important, effective, user-friendly communication for you and a cloud based storage system (as was evident when our server was out over the storm recovery period). Compass does provide this for us. At the beginning of term 3 we will be phasing over to Compass.

Next week we will start to complete our attendance records on Compass, then next term all excursion information, payments and newsletters will come through a compass email and a push notification. These items can be viewed through the Compass App (you can download for free through your app store) or on their website. We are really hoping that this platform makes things a lot easier for you by streamlining all the information you need into one place.

In this newsletter will be information on downloading the app, we will provide you with guidance on how to log in early next term.

Prep enrolment dates

With the crazy weather and storms an extension has been made for prep 2022 enrolment forms to be submitted on the 30th of July. If you know anyone who was hoping to enrol let them know this date.

Families will receive a confirmation letter on the 16th of August of their child’s enrolment.

Reports

We will be ready to make reports go live next Friday. These will be on Sentral, which can be accessed through the website. For next week’s newsletter we will make a step by step process for all of our new families to access their reports. I am currently reading through the reports for all the students in our school and it has been so pleasing to see so many great achievements being made in learning and some great goals being set.

End of Term information finishing times and starting dates

I cringe at mentioning this… I can feel the horror as I mention that end of term is coming up next Friday the 25th of June. We will be having an assembly at 1:30pm with school concluding at 2:30pm.

We encourage our families to access the CIRE holiday program for a little extra holiday fun for the kids. Please get in touch with the team amandaquilty@cire.org.au for more details.

We look forward to seeing all of our students back at school on Monday 12th of July for term 3 and our inquiry focus on Power! You will learn more about this in term 3.

That’s it for this week.

Warmest regards,

Nerae

Music News

Greetings to our wonderful school community,

It is so great to be back at school and playing music with our students again. This week our grade 1/2 students had fun making and playing some rhythms using animal names. We are learning to use the rhythms of words to make music. Our grade 3/4 students continue to learn to play chords on the piano and the xylophones and our grade 5/6 students took part in a drum circle using various percussion instruments.

Basketball Percussion

This term the grade 5/6 students have been working on making percussive music using body percussion and basketballs! Yes, my two favourite subjects, music and sport! Check out some of their work in the videos below. Enjoy!

Have a great week,

Jenny Legg

This week in Art…

Hello Badger Creek families,

This week both our junior and senior classes have been working on observational drawing. Taking inspiration from World Environment Day they have chosen some of their favourite animals to draw.

Once our Junior students had finished their drawings, they found a range of textured objects and took rubbings from these using crayons or pencils. These colourful textures made the foreground and background of their artworks.

Our senior students focused on the art elements of line, pattern and shape. After drawing their favourite animals from observation, they used fine liner to fill in their drawing with a range of patterns to create texture in their work.

Well done everyone! Have a great week.

This week in Prep…

The preps have quite literally bounced back into school! Energy levels have been high and we’ve seen such a mixed bag of emotions with our return. Mostly, we’ve seen ear to ear smiles! Our hearts are full of gratitude to be back with our friends. Alongside the happy is the tired. Our learners have worked so hard playing catch up this week- they are exhausted! But boy oh boy, have they succeeded in keeping up to date with their learning. We are up to speed with our sentence of the week: This bit of my leg is bent. We have been practising our counting on strategy in lots of different contexts. Our favourite project from this week was our book summary on The Pocket Dogs. We are so proud of the learning that the children devoted to this unit. And the final product says it all. If you haven’t already seen your child’s book summary, ask to have a peek!

We look forward to summing up this busy term with some fun tasks next week!

Until then, rest and recharge team.

This week in Grade 3 / 4…

What can we say? We’ve been delighted to have the children back at school this week. Given the challenges our community has faced in recent time, it has been pleasing to see our students seamlessly slot back into their routines. What a resilient bunch they are.

Our classrooms have been filled with joy and excitement as the kids have reconnected with each other. We’ve had a focus on student wellbeing, with many brain breaks and games to help students rekindle their social connections before the fast-approaching holidays.

The learning this week has seen students developing their questioning skills in reading sessions, whilst putting the finishing touches on their final persuasive pieces. In maths, students have explored the names and attributes of 2D and 3D shapes, with a curly question posed to an unsuspecting teacher leading to the shared discovery that a polygon with a million sides not only exists, but is called a megagon. We’ve all learnt something this week.

Well done 3/4s – you’re amazing.

This week in Grade 5 / 6…

Hi To All our Amazing Families,

We hope you’ve all been safe and well during some pretty challenging times!

It’s been another fast-paced week for the Grade Five and Six students, however they’ve demonstrated their incredible levels of resilience in the classroom, whilst providing care and support to one another as they adjust to being back in the classroom. As always, we are tremendously proud of all our students, and their ability to take on almost any challenge in their stride.

In reading, we’ve been working on refocusing on our comprehension skills as students unpack and infer the deeper meanings of texts and how they relate to themselves as readers. In writing, our students have completed thank you letters to our local S.E.S volunteers to express their appreciation for all their efforts, which will be delivered to the SES at the end of the week.

For mathematics, students have been concentrating on consolidating and expanding their understanding of chance and probability, which they’re using to predict the outcomes of chance experiments.

Finally, as part of Inquiry, we are very pleased and excited to announce that the Enterprise Fair will now be running next Thursday on the 24’th of June. Throughout the term, students have worked tirelessly on launching their own businesses, and have spent the week working on creating inventory to sell, as well as advertising material to promote their products (several of which you will see in this weeks newsletter). Next week, each enterprise will engage in a variety of advertising to the other year levels to provide further details and information to their peers regarding the variety and pricing of their goods. If possible, we would ask if you could consider providing your child with a small budget to purchase items at the fair which they are most drawn to, as all profits will be donated to local charity.

Warmest Regards
