From the Principal…

Well another week has been and gone and has probably tested us in many ways, especially with our relationships in our house. I wanted to repeat the message that many of your teachers are saying…

“Do what you can”…

We are not judging you. We just want to know that you and your family are safe. So please, over the next week do what you can with the learning we offer. For our Prep to grade 2 students there will be a lot more WebEx learning, and our 5/6 team will be offering a drop in room for students to come and ask for help during the day (3/4’s will offer a mixture of both). Encourage your kids to join with or without a camera, even if they don’t want to be near the computer, pop the lesson on so your child can hear the learning (just send a message through the chat that your child is just listening today).

Ultimately we are just so grateful that by staying home you are helping to keep us all safe. Hopefully we can all be together soon!

Ground works coming up…

Finally we are heading into our first set of building works (From 2019, not the Capital Works Project). This will mean that our BER is getting upgraded to meet BAL 29 ratings- this will include reglazing all of the windows, getting the roof fixed of leaks and ensuring that all gaps in the building are blocked up. A little bonanza is the upgrade to the toilets at the gym. Trades will start working there from the 15th of June and the gym toilets will be out of bounds until term 3. The toilets will be bright and colourful when completed!

Reports are coming

That’s right, on the last day of term reports will go live. They will be on Sentral, but only on the web based browser, the next few weeks will be a good chance to check in with Brogan if you are unable to access Sentral. We will offer a guide via an email on the day that the reports go live to help you get to reports.

In the coming weeks you may hear from your child’s teachers if they have made no growth over the term, or if they have made more than 18 months growth during the semester (this won’t be for all of us). We try to reduce the chances of any “report shock” (a bit like bill shock) by communicating openly with you. There will be a chance to discuss the reports and your child’s learning in 3 way interviews in term 3.

The return to school

As we move closer to a return to school, your child may start to feel a little nervous about coming back to school. This is totally understandable. If this is happening for your family make sure you check in with your child’s teacher, they will be more than happy to have a chat with you and work out return to school support. After the last big lockdown last year there were some little strategies that teams put in place, which I am sure the teachers will be happy to use again.

That’s it for this week… have a safe weekend at home.

AROUND THE GROUNDS

This week in P.E…

Hi Badger Creek Community.

This week our students were involved in finding many different ways to be physically active whilst at home. Thank you to all the students that jumped on the blog and participated in this weeks activities.

Remember: It is recommended that all children should be physically active for 60 mins every day! So lets get creative and find different ways that gets our body active!

We hope you are all making the most of your remote learning, and I look forward to seeing you all back at school very soon.

Until then, take care!

This week in Art…

Hello everyone,

Well done to all of our students for getting through a week of remote learning. I was so excited to see how many of you participated in the online art lesson and shared your work with me.

This week we explored the concept of art elements and how artists use them in their work. Our Junior students focused on the element – colour whilst our Seniors explored the element – shape, looking at both positive and negative space.

Our Junior students created nature collages by foraging in their garden for a collection of natural materials including leaves, twigs and flowers. They then created artworks out of these materials with a focus on colour. They explored warm and cool colours, complementary colours as well as primary and secondary colours.

Looking at the art element shape, our seniors made a Notan design. They looked at both positive and negative space and cut interesting shapes out of paper to create their design. In some instances, they tried doing a double or multi-cut which added intricate detail to their work.

Have a great week.

This week in Prep…

Thank you to all our Prep families for the wonderful effort you have put in this week transitioning to remote learning.

It has been wonderful to see all your faces on WebEx in the morning. We do like seeing you all singing our morning song!

We hope you have all been using your reading strategies and are enjoying reading with your loved ones.

Keep writing in your workbook, we can’t wait to see your amazing sentences.

Take care and look after each other,

If you need anything at all, please don’t hesitate to contact us!

This week in Grade 1 / 2…

In grade 1/2 this week we have been impressed by the quick transition back to remote learning. Students engaged in morning check ins to connect with their teachers and peers and completed a range of learning activities in reading, writing, maths, and inquiry. One of our favourite activities this week was our nature collages in art! We were so impressed by our student’s creativity!

This week in Grade 3 / 4…

This week has been one of mixed emotions for us all.

We have returned, once again, to our old friend/foe remote learning.

There is no doubt that these times do not sit with complete ease in our repertoires of comfort but as a wise person once said (I have no idea who), “In every cloud there is a silver lining.”

For the Grade ¾ teachers, the silver lining is that we can slow down our morning check-in and get to say hello and listen to responses from each child in a relaxed and present way. This is such a treasured time of our day, being one of the few times that we get to see each other, albeit via a screen.

This week, we have been playing some games and participating in some activities such as…

  • Heads or tails
  • Fake news,
  • Random object
  • Directed drawing
  • 5 second rule,
  • Share one learning task and convince others
  • Show and tell

The children really seem to be enjoying these activities and I know that the teachers are as a result of this enthusiasm.

We hope that this is helping the children to settle into their remote learning day.

Hopefully it is not too long before we can all be back onsite, enjoying each others’ company in person once again.

Until then, keep participating and well done to you all😊

This week in Grade 5 / 6…

Hello to all our Grade 5/6 Families!

We hope you are all well and looking after yourselves and one another during this trying time. An especially big shout out to all our amazing students who have adapted so well to being back in an remote learning environment and tackling their assigned tasks with such dedication and enthusiasm, awesome job everyone!

This week, for our reading, students have been challenged to move beyond simply focusing on the events and characters of the stories they’re reading and tune into the impact of their selected texts on themselves as a reader. They have commenced exploring how authors use a variety of tools and techniques to influence their audiences, with a view towards adapting some of these into their own future writing.

In writing, we’ve been focusing on using the Writing Process to look for ways to develop our writing. In addition, student’s have been using prompts to help them generate ideas and respond to ques in creative ways. They have been especially focused on producing high quality work through the use of devices such as sizzling starts and high quality verbs and adjectives.

For maths, we have been focused on continuing to explore our understanding of numeracy and it’s links to student’s every-day lives by working through financial based problems which allow students to take control of their own decisions and work within a certain budget.

Finally, to help students focus on and address their own well-being, we’ve asked that they spend some time this week engaging in some non-academic activities, such as cooking a meal for their families, completing an workout routine or going for a walk and collecting natural materials to create a mural.

Wishing you all the best!

The Grade 5/6 Teaching Team.
