From the Principal’s Seat

I hope you are all travelling well. There are not too many things to add today, please note the email that was sent out yesterday. I hope you are all well and taking good care of yourselves. So let’s get started…

3 way interviews

We are in the process of getting our 3 way interview schedules prepared on Sentral, we will send a link home on Tuesday so you can fit in your 3 way interview time. In next week’s newsletter we will be offering some information on how you and your child can prepare for the discussion. It will be a 15 minute timeslot that allows an opportunity to discuss your child’s learning successes and set some goals for term 4.

Prep enrolments 2021

We are starting to get things rolling for 2021 preps. Coming up on Thursday the 3rd of September at 5pm we will have a Prepping for Prep session with Mrs Griffiths and Ms Eagleton. We invite all enrolled families to join us on WebEx. The invite link will be on our website.

We are a little excited to have a special blog page up and running for our 2021 preps, a space for you to access stories and fun activities for your kinder child during these remote times!

If you know of anyone who is yet to enrol their child, or they are undecided, they are more than welcome to give us a call, we can offer a virtual tour.

WebEx

Just a gentle reminder about our WebEx expectations. Please ensure that when your child isn’t speaking that their mic is turned off, loud background noise can make it challenging for other viewers to hear the learning. We thank you for your support.

MUSIC NEWS

Greetings to our Wonderful School Community,

We have had a great week in music. Our Junior School students have been playing along to the music of Norwegian Composer, Edvard Grieg, played by the MSO. We made our own instruments or used our own instruments and followed the conductor of the orchestra. It was great! Thank you to all of the people who sent in pictures and videos of themselves playing. You can see some of them here.

Our Senior Students have been learning to play the drums with the help of a cool website called Little Kids Rock. I have received some wonderful pictures and videos of their music as well. Great work Seniors!

ASSEMBLY

I want to thank all of the people who have taken the time to send in assembly performances. I am aware of how much time and effort it takes to learn your pieces and then record the as well. Thank you for the enjoyment you bring to the whole community with your music. What a gift!

Have a great week and keep on making music.

THIS WEEK IN ART

Hello Badger Creek Community,

Our students have been working diligently again this week in our virtual art room, creating a wonderful array of masterpieces that I’m so excited to share.

This week we explored how artists create works of art using materials other than paint, in particular found objects, both natural and man-made.

One of our tasks asked students to investigate colour by using found objects in their home to recreate a colour wheel. The creative response to this task was outstanding. Students could also choose to participate in a quiz to put their knowledge of colour theory to the test. They certainly know their stuff!

Our other task this week was to use the work of Australian artist Albert Tucker as inspiration to make an artwork out of found materials like sand, dirt, stones etc. As you’ll see in the gallery, our students choice of materials, colours, and thought out compositions demonstrate their understanding of a wide variety of art concepts.

Have a lovely week everybody

IN PREP THIS WEEK

“This week in Prep we have been looking at character traits. Dharma the Llama has helped us on this learning path as we were able to notice all of her quirky traits as well as the different traits her pals have. We have also created beautiful flower gardens filled with our number knowledge. What a busy week we’ve had! Next week, we have lots of exciting things happening. Have a look out for our super special secret tasks. We are getting ready to celebrate some special people in our lives..”

IN GRADE 1 / 2 THIS WEEK

The grade 1/2  teachers have thoroughly enjoyed listening to their students read this week. Our students uploaded snippets of themselves reading a ‘good fit’ text. This was not an assessment but Wow, we have noticed how much they have progressed. Thank you for those students who shared their reading with us.

In Maths, we have been exploring shapes and how these can transform when they are flipped, turned and even when they slide. Yesterday we got to make a pacperson and watched it transform as it moved throughout a course.

Well, Canada and the United States were great hosts. We definitely needed our bathers in Toronto and Florida. Next, we are off to South America. We are looking to explore place like the Amazon rainforest. I wonder what country the Amazon is located in? It might begin with a ‘B’. Any guesses??

IN GRADE 3 / 4 THIS WEEK

This week in 3/4 we have been focusing on fractions in Numeracy and we having been working on Writer’s voice in Literacy. This week in Inquiry students have been continuing their research on a chosen African country. Well done 3/4’s!

IN GRADE 5 / 6 THIS WEEK

This week in reading, 5/6 students have been learning how to collect and sort information from newspapers, websites, videos and podcasts, as we look to include a variety of sources in our ongoing Inquiry project, researching a country of Europe. We have been exposing students to a range processes to organise the information they deem important, with the goal in mind of them each finding a research system that caters to their learning style. The recent writing common assessment task highlighted a few common areas of improvement for our students. As such, we have targeted paragraphing, punctuating dialogue and varying sentence beginnings (by moving an adverbial phrase from the end of a sentence to the beginning) in our writing sessions this week. And after some initial reluctance, our students have remembered that fractions aren’t as scary as they first seem. They have been honing their skills of locating and ordering fractions on a number line, in addition to continuing counting patterns with both proper and improper fractions, and mixed numerals. Keep up the fabulous learning 5/6s!
