This week we will jump right into the things you need to know!

3 Way Interviews/discussions

Many of you may be feeling a little bit concerned about your child’s learning progress over the year. That’s why we have been completing Common Assessment Tasks and upload tasks. We want to use the opportunity in the last 2 weeks of term to make space for you to have a chat with your child’s teacher about the learning that has been happening in term 3. We will be organising times to meet with you soon.

Plans for 2021

We are starting to plan for 2021. We know that sometimes our circumstances change, you may need to move and this will impact on where you send your child to school. If you are aware that you might be changing your situation and your child is finishing up at Badger at the end of the year, we would really like to know. It helps us with planning for next year. If you can let me know by dropping me an email so I can ensure that we consider it for next year’s student numbers (this helps us plan ahead well).

Attitude to School Survey (ATOSS)

Grades 4, 5 and 6 students will be invited next week to complete a survey to help us understand how they feel about school. Even though we are working remotely we think we will still be able to find out some interesting data in relation to how our kids are feeling about school. This data will also provide us with some interesting insight into the impact of COVID-19 for our kids. Emails will be sent home early next week to families with all of the details you will need. Keep an eye in your inbox!

Michael Carr-Gregg

This coming Tuesday the 25th of August from 7:30-8:30, Michael Carr-Gregg will be offering a few tips in a webinar called Managing the Coronacoaster- Tips for building resilient families. It’s free and all you have to do is register on the link here

What I will be reading this weekend?

I’m ploughing through this one. All about how to see your parenting through a strength based lens. How to help your child use their strengths to help them problems solve. It is really helpful and gives you great insight into your own mindset. If you fancy finding out what your strengths are, have a go at completing this survey. My top strength is creativity. What is yours?

That’s about it from me this week… Till next week make sure you laugh everyday!

Numeracy Common Assessment Task

On the 31st of August we will be having another whole school assessment where will be asking students to complete a maths task.

They will need to do this without your help.

For this task we will be asking students to use numbers from catalogs, newspapers, book clubs etc.

From Monday next week, there will be a supply of these materials for your use at the office, if you do not have access to these at home. Please come and collect 1-2 items if needed.

Look out for our task and watch how your child works with numbers!

MUSIC NEWS

Greetings to our Wonderful School Community,

This week in music our Junior School listened to the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra perform  part of The Planets by Gustav Holtz. I had so many responses from the students telling me their favourite instruments and which part of the music they liked best and why. It was lovely to read your responses and see your very interesting pictures as well.

The Senior School have been  taking part in a lyric writing workshop provided by the Victorian Arts Centre. This was also a very popular activity and I received some fabulous mind maps with lyrical ideas and also some finished song lyrics. Well done senior school.

In the newsletter this week, I have included four performances from our students, Ava on Sax, Griffin on piano, Ryder on guitar and Annika on guitar. We also have one really lovely composition by Harmony. Well done and thank you to all of those people for sharing their music with our community. What a gift!

Have a great week and keep on making music.

THIS WEEK IN ART

Hello everyone and welcome to this week’s art update!

We are really lucky that our school is situated in such a fantastic location. Not only do we have the Sanctuary across the road, but we also have TarraWarra Museum of Art a short drive away. Many of our students have visited this wonderful art space and this week they have had the opportunity to do some of the workshops Tarrawarra has to offer.

Our students could choose from two workshop tasks. Task one was making nature confetti from different coloured leaves, using a holepunch and scissors. They then made an artwork out the confetti focusing on patterns, shapes and colours.

The second task was making paint brushes out of things found in nature, like feathers, leaves and twigs. Students then created abstract backgrounds with their homemade paintbrushes and once dry, relief printed botanical images of leaves as their final layer.

We are exploring so many different art making techniques whilst on remote learning and I’m so thrilled at how many of our students are giving these new experiences a go. A round of applause again to our wonderful and talented artists!

Have a great week everyone

This week in PE

Hi Badger Creek Community!

This week in Physical Education, our students continued to find different ways at being physically active and improving our physical fitness whilst at home!

Our Senior students were involved in a F-45 Fitness circuit challenge, participating in a range of short 45 second stations, including strength and locomotor activities, at a high intensity.

Our Junior students were involved in a Minute to Win it challenge, focusing on a range of fundamental motor and movement skills while recording their best results.

I was so impressed to see some of the results sent through! A big thank you to all students that got involved in the activities this week!

Next week, our students will be setting their goals and trying to beat their score from the previous week! I look forward to seeing the results!

Around the Year Levels

IN PREP THIS WEEK

This week in Prep we have been reading and writing with our favourite Alpaca, Macca! We listened to and created lots of rhyming sentences and got a bit creative with Macca inspired crafts and colouring. In Maths we created Teddy Park. So many number problems were created and solved in within this space. In inquiry, we looked at our place in the world. We created beautiful representations of our earth and zoomed in on our country, state and home suburbs. We look forward to another week of fun and discoveries in Prep.

IN GRADE 1 / 2 THIS WEEK

This week in grade 1/2 we have been celebrating the wonderful literature of Dr. Seuss. We have had explored The Cat in The Hat, Fox in Socks, had a wonderful Wacky Wednesday and learnt some ways to take care of our pets from reading Oh, The Pets You Can Get! We listened to and created lots of rhyming words and sentences inspired by these books.

In Maths, we have been exploring shapes and have discovered how many sides, corners and faces shapes have. We have also been looking for shapes in and around our homes.

We have travelled to Europe this week and explored countries including Spain, Italy and France. Next week we are off to the North America. We are wondering what to pack in our suitcases? Snow coats or bathers??

IN GRADE 3 / 4 THIS WEEK

This week in 3/4 we have been focusing on interpreting and making our own bar graphs and we having been focusing on ‘voice’ in Reading. In Writing this week, we have published our procedural texts. This week in Inquiry students have been researching a chosen country from Africa. We would like to commend all of our students on their hard work this week!

Kind regards,

The 3/4 Team

IN GRADE 5 / 6 THIS WEEK

Our grade 5/6 are getting deeper into their Inquiry projects exploring a country of Europe. To support this learning, students have been practising the reading skills of determining importance and sorting information using non-fiction texts, as well as honing their internet research skills. Our focus for persuasive writing has been gaining an understanding into how a concession (acknowledging others’ contention) and the use of modal words can strengthen our arguments in the reader’s mind. Maths has seen our students exploring symmetry and tessellations, in addition to a session investigating the transformations Ms. Pac-Man carries as she navigates the maze in the classic video game. Well done 5/6s – we’re so proud of you all!
