Nerae Preece Acting Principal

From the Principal

From the Principal’s seat…

Hello Everyone,

I must say I am a little excited about next week. It will be so nice to have our school complete with our student from grades 3 to 6. I thought this newsletter it would be really important for us to go over the pickup and drop off details. Our junior school families have been fantastically flexible and caring in making sure that the process has been super smooth. We know our senior school families will want to support this as well. So, below I have broken the day up into parts so you can get ready for next week.

In the mornings

There have been a few changes to the morning routine. Please note…

Drop off to school is from 8:45am to 9 am. Students are to walk straight to their classrooms where their teacher will be waiting for them, for a gentle start for the day. There is no longer a before school play. The bottom basketball courts are no longer available for bike riding or scooting before school. We ask that students riding/scooting to school dismount from their bike/scooter and take it straight to the bike shed or office (for scooters), then head straight to class.

Any student arriving before 8:45am will be placed into before school care, and the family will incur the costs. Please ensure that you arrive between 8:45am and 9am.

We have 2 drop off spots in the morning. Both are kiss and go.

If you believe your child will be able to say goodbye quickly, drop them off on the pull off parking that is opposite the kindergarten. You can also use the kindergarten carpark and use the crossing to ensure that your child has a safe crossing (I have observed a few families that are letting their kids cross the road from the Sanctuary side, and I do ask, for your child’s safety that you park nearer to the crossing so they can cross safely).

If you believe your child may have some challenges with separating from you, we ask that you use the pull off car park that is on the junior school side (opposite the Sanctuary), where there will be staff members available to assist with this.

If you have students in both the junior and senior school, and you have already organised a drop off routine for your child that is in the junior school, continue the drop offs from that point.

A VERY BIG WARM WELCOME BACK TO THE SENIOR SCHOOL

We would like to say welcome back to the senior school and say how very excited we are to have you back in the classrooms. Before you come back there is some new and special routines we need to tell you about.

To help create the new special routines we have the help of Miss Kean and Mr. Clingin.

MUSIC NEWS

Greetings to our wonderful school community,

I am sure we have all learnt so much over the past few months. New sayings, like ‘zoom fatugue’, new skills like using Webex and new ways to think about sharing music. We have had carpark concerts from big rock stars and livingroom concerts from small rock stars! I have learnt a whole lot about recording videos and sharing them online. I can’t wait to share some of these skills with our students and find ways to enhance the music program for all of our community.

One way I will begin to do that is to share the student’s music regularly in the new, online newsletter. Given that we can not hold assemblies at the moment, this will be a fantastic alternative. We can share video and audio files and you can go back to view them time and time again. You can also share them with your family and friends.

This week, I have included a selection of work by the students that have been sent to me and uploaded during remote learning. Well done to all of our remote music learners. I hope you enjoy the selection below. I cannot fit everyone’s work in this week, so if I have missed you out and you would like to share, let me know!

Have a great week and don’t forget to check the online newsletter each week for the latest news at Badger Creek.

Art News

It has been so wonderful having the Junior School back in the art room working enthusiastically and diligently on their artwork.

The Preps have been learning about landscape paintings and the concept of foreground, middle-ground and background in a work of art. They have been creating their own landscape drawings to help them understand and explore these new ideas.

The Grade 1/2’s have been looking at the artist Sandra Silberzweig and how she uses colour and texture in her art. The students are experimenting with black glue and chalk pastels to create vibrant images of fish in their final pieces. They are learning about how warm and cool colours create contrast and how analogous colours create harmony in their artwork.

We are looking forward to welcoming back the Senior School next week and can’t wait to begin creating and making with them.

Around the Year Levels

PREP

Prep B love AUSLAN! We have almost learned all our AUSLAN alphabet and this week we learned how to sign the ‘We are Australian’ song in recognition of reconciliation week. We had so much fun! Stay tuned for more AUSLAN learning… We are learning our colours next!

Also in prep this week, we have been learning all about arrays! We have been practising putting our objects into rows and columns. This helps us count large numbers. Check out Prep City which we made from arrays!

Grade 1 / 2

12B have been summarising fairy tales this week. Mrs Douglas was so proud of these star writers who worked together to write a summary of Little Red Riding Hood. They remembered the key words, main points as well as forming letters and punctuating their sentences. Way to go!

WORKING HARD FROM HOME

Grade 3 / 4

This week in Year 3/4 students have been working on note taking when reading non-fiction texts. They have been identifying the structural features of information reports, multiplying in mathematics and Space Science. We can not wait to see our students next week!

Grade 5 / 6

This week the grade 5 and 6 students have been focusing on summarising different text types and responding to reading.

We have also been focusing on multiplication problem solving tasks, and beginning out Space Science unit.

National Reconciliation Week

National Reconciliation Week is an opportunity to learn about our shared history, culture and achievements.
We learn about our past. We unite in celebrating and appreciating the rich, continuing culture of our first peoples.
We show our support for equality and equity for all, and endeavour to strengthen relationships in our community.
We take the time to reflect on how we can do our part towards reconciliation.
Badger Creek Primary is located on a very significant location and has a history that is to be shared and celebrated.
We look forward to sharing this history with our families.
Last week, as a part of their Reconciliation Week learning, 1/2B created wonderfully bright artworks that can now be
seen on display at the front office.
