From the Principal

Hello Families!

Can you believe we are up to week 4 already!?! This crisis learning situation that we have found ourselves living in, sometimes makes the days feel long but the weeks feel like they fly by. Our Badger Community is showing such strength. I know there is exhaustion and tiredness from all of the changes that we’ve had to make, but truly, you are all showing so much support and understanding for our situation. Thank you!

Common Assessment Task Today

Well done to Mr Moore and the literacy team for getting the Common Assessment Task (CAT) up and running today. I can’t wait to see how everyone is travelling with their understanding of visualisation. We are so excited to say that the soundscape that we used in the CAT was from our dear neighbours the Healesville Sanctuary and Murrindindi. They generously let us use this soundscape to  support this visualisation activity. We are so grateful for our connections with our friends at the Sanctuary. We are looking forward to the day we get to head back over and read to our favourite animals and also to do some projects!

Survey results

Thank you so much to all the families that helped complete the survey we asked you to fill in last week. The information you gave us really helped to guide where we need to go next for our students. We took your advice to make sure the blog had the information that the emails contained. We have also streamlined the Monday’s email to have all of the meeting room details for you for the whole week. I am pretty sure most of you are getting used to WebEx! Stay tuned to a bit of information later in this newsletter to tell you one more thing that we are doing as a result of listening to your feedback!

Reports

The leadership team are working at the moment to discuss the simplified reports that you will be provided for your child’s learning. They will be completed on Sentral and will be available at the end of term. In the interim however you will be receiving feedback about your child’s common assessment task in 2 weeks’ time. This will hopefully be timely feedback for your child.

Finish off Friday

Next week we want to try something called Finish off Friday. No additional work will be set for classes, it will be a chance to finish off any work that needs to be completed or uploaded. If your child/children have finished all of their work? We are going to encourage one of two things…

  1. You may decide that Friday is a housework morning for your family to get all the jobs that need doing to have the house ready for the weekend. Encourage your kids to help make the house look great again, and then maybe a movie afternoon. It’s time to help our loved ones put first things first around the house. OR
  2. Passion Projects! We are so interested in what your passions are… Finish off Friday is a great opportunity for you to work on these passions. I know that there are some budding chefs, gardeners, mathematicians, writers  and artists within our school. Finish off Friday is a great day to pursue those passions. Miss Murphy and I want photos of the amazing work that you are doing for your passion projects, with you in them of course! Our goal is to fill our office windows with your pictures to show our school what your passions are… So please send them onto us on the blog or email us to share!

That’s it for this week! Please enjoy your weekend!

Happy Mother’s day

From everyone at Badger Creek, we would like to wish all mother’s a very happy day for this coming Sunday.

We know time’s are a little different at the moment, however we hope your family spoil you and fill your day with love, laughter and smiles!

To All Special Mum’s:

Of all the special joys in life,
The big ones and the small,
A mother’s love and tenderness
Is the greatest of them all.

Around the Year Levels:

Prep:

Our Prep’s have been very busy this week working on their literacy and numeracy skills.

In literacy they have continued practicing their visualising skills by using their senses and in numeracy they have looked at their ordinal numbers.

Mrs Griffith and Ms Eagleton are very proud of all the Prep students and their hard work.

Their favourite part of the week was seeing all your smiling faces again … What was your favourite part of the week?

Grade 1 & 2:

Mr Anderson, Ms Douglas and Ms Krueger have been so excited and waiting in anticipation for the Grade 1&2 students to upload their work and can’t wait for this week’s work to be uploaded.

The Grade 1’s and 2’s have been working on shared reading based on the long vowel ‘e’.

We hope all the students have enjoyed reading ‘Billy Sings in the Choir’

Grade 3 & 4:

What a big week the grade 3 & 4 students have had with their writing and sharing their Rocket Writing.

The grade 3 & 4 students have been listening to ‘The Lost Thing’ for Literacy and have been completing reading and writing activities every day.

They have been working hard on their spelling using compound words…How many compound words can you think of?

Grade 5 & 6:

In Grade 5 & 6 they have been exploring some creative writing this week, with one of the activities asking  what would happen if ‘Luke Skywalker and Harry Potter enagage in a duel’.

There has been lots of maths problem solving and even work on meteorological natural disasters.

Week 4 has seen a great variety of work come in from the Grade 5 & 6 students.

Music News

Greetings to our wonderful Badger Creek Community,

I am having a great time creating lessons for you and receiving back some of your magnificent work. I have had a positive response from families who have been playing and singing Yananha. Well done. I would love to see some videos of your music. Just upload them on the music page of the blog. Remember we will sing and play this together when we return to school in person.

Now that our newsletter is online, I can share video and audio files. It is really exciting. We have some wonderful music to share with you this week. Check out the beautiful guitar performance by Annika and Alan and the very special compositions made by Olivia and Harmony.

If you are having trouble uploading your music you can email it to me or your teacher.

Look out for next week’s Beatboxing Lessons.

Have a lovely weekend,

Never on a Sunday

This is a challenging time for all of us all and it is important to remember that we are in this together!

Mindfulness

Mindfulness is more than a current buzz-word. The benefits of taking short mental breaks, dedicating yourself to one task at a time, actively correcting posture, expressing gratitude and taking a moment to focus on breathing – all are scientifically proven and have far reaching impacts over time. In an increasingly busy and demanding world, these moments will become more important to take care of ourselves, and those we love.

At Badger Creek PS, mindfulness is address through both our wellbeing education and our 7 Habits. ‘Sharpen the Saw’ is Habit 7 – refers to making an active effort to feed your body, mind, heart and soul. Think eating healthily, moving your body, and getting enough water. Think feeding your mind with quality content – interesting books, creating or learning new skills. Think doing things you love with excitement and intent, building and strengthening relationships. Think creating space, expressing gratitude, or being out in nature.

What fills your emotional bucket is unique to you. The important thing is that we learn to prioritise time to care for ourselves – whatever that may look like. We hope you find a little time this week to do something you enjoy, just for you.
