Curriculum - Physical Education

The Physical Education program at Badger Creek Primary has a strong focus on equipping students with the eleven Fundamental Motor Skills of catch, kick, run, vertical jump, overhand throw, bal bounce, leap, dodge, punt, forehand strike and two-hand side-arm strike. Students begin developing and refining these skills in Prep and continue to build on them right through to Grade 6. We spend a large amount of time teaching these skills explicitly and then applying them to both cooperative and competitive sport situations.

We strive to make Physical Education an environment where all students can thrive and feel comfortable participating at their own level. Students participate in sport on a weekly basis, both in specialised P.E. lessons and in multi-class grade level activities. Students work cooperatively with peers to develop their motor skills and begin peer coaching in the senior primary. All students participate in group work and are supported in the development of their leadership skills during these sessions.

Our sporting curriculum also covers a wide range of areas such as Athletics, Summer and Winter sports, Gymnastics, Orienteering, and Swimming. Students are provided with opportunities to participate in a wide range of extra-curricular activities across all levels. As part of our District Sporting Association, we are able to provide students with opportunities to participate in events such as kayaking, orienteering, cross country, and to participate in trials for our district sporting teams with the possibility of going even further.

At Badger Creek Primary, we are continually striving to provide a Physical Education program which excites and engages our students right across the school. We are always on the lookout for family and community members who can provide specialised skills to further support our students. Through our P.E. program, the students of Badger Creek Primary develop confidence, resilience, teamwork, self-esteem, motivation, and most of all have a great time doing it!
